KEFL
Kent Equine Facilitated Learning
KEFL has been operating since 2018. Michelle, our lead facilitator has met with many individuals, particularly young people and families, our goals are to overcome personal challenges and promote mental and physical well-being. Through the power of therapeutic interactions with horses and a connection to nature, we offer a safe, supportive space where individuals can express emotions, build confidence, and foster resilience. Our work is deeply rooted in compassion, with a focus on providing personalised support that helps people reconnect with themselves, their families, and the world around them. Whether it's through 1-1 sessions, group work, or virtual resources, we are dedicated to making a positive, lasting difference in the lives of those we work with and the community around us.

Understanding Equine Therapy
Equine therapy offers unique and powerful benefits for people, especially those who have experienced trauma, abuse, or emotional challenges. Horses, as intuitive and sensitive animals, mirror the emotions of those around them. When working with horses, people receive instant feedback based on the horse’s reactions - whether it’s fear in response to anger, nervousness in response to anxiety, or dominance when there’s a lack of confidence.
This natural, non-judgmental response allows individuals to become more aware of their emotions and behaviours. Through guided activities such as grooming, leading, and observing herd dynamics, they learn to manage their feelings, communicate more effectively, and build trust. The process of forming a bond with a horse requires patience, calmness, and self-awareness, all of which are valuable life skills that can lead to improvements in mental health, confidence, and social interactions. Equine therapy fosters personal growth and emotional healing, providing a safe and supportive space for young people to thrive.

Services at KEFL
At KEFL we are dedicated to empowering young people and families who face significant challenges, including high levels of anxiety, social withdrawal, and reliance on medication. Through our specialised therapeutic interactions with horses, we offer personalised 1-1 sessions designed to help children connect with these gentle animals, express their emotions, and experience a sense of safety that may be lacking in their lives.
Additionally, we conduct small group sessions and collaborate with local schools, where participants engage in meaningful activities like grooming and caring for horses. These experiences not only promote emotional healing but also build essential life skills, such as confidence, communication, and focus.
